Manganese(IV) oxide (MnO~_) was found to oxidize aldoximes to nitrile oxides. Nitrile oxides were trapped in situ with dipolarophiles to furnish 2-oxazolines, The best results were obtained with hydroximinoacetates as nitrile oxide precursors.
