The divalent metal ions Cu'+, Co 2+, Mn2+, and Zn\*+ form complexes with the fluorescent etheno analogs of the adenine nucleotides. The fluorescence intensity is thereby diminished. The binding strength of the metals to etheno-adenosine triphosphate is higher than to etheno-adenosine di-and monophos
