✦ Synopsis

The oscillatory behaviour of the Belousov-Zhabotinsky system with Ce(III) as the catalyst and citric, malic and malonic acids as the substrate individually or two together is presented and discussed. The behaviour of the system is modified by the inclusion of the second substrate leading to entrainment, independent, reinforcement or entrainment with reinforcement, The behaviour of the system with individual and mixed substrates can be understood in terms of the individual steps involved in the mechanism of the overall reaction.

Dual-phase oscillations are observed in Belousov-Zhabotinsky system with 4hydroxy-3-methoxybenzaldehyde (vanillin) as the substrate and manganous sulphate or ammonium Ce(IV) sulphate as the catalyst. The nonoscillatory period of time between the two phases decreases with increase in the concentratio
