Asbestos ban opens new doors

The move away from asbestos in Japan has provided an opportunity to European and US companies, and one example is Flexitallic.

The company was set a challenge to provide a cost-effective Flexpro, Kammprofile style, gasket. For the initial period of changeover, the 150# and 300# pressure class has been investigated with the move to a semi metallic based product. The limits of available space with existing sheet gaskets and commercial pressures required a cost effective gasket with loose outer ring.

The first gaskets provided were Flexpro Style ZA with loose outer ring made from a 3mm core. This product offers some benefits as the price of stainless steel continues to escalate. Initial work has taken this product up to 24 inch nominal pipe size with interest being shown by major refineries.
