✦ Synopsis

Abstract

This article shows a new wideband driver for switchmode RF power wideband amplifiers based on the voltage waveforms generated across nonnominal wideband Class‐E amplifier's switch. Their key features are high efficiency, wideband operation, and only positive driving voltage generation. Harmonic balance simulations and measurements on a prototype (B = 40%, P~OUT~ = 50 W at 7.5 MHz, Ξ·~OV~ > 90%) show its effectiveness. Β© 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. ## Abstract This paper describes a new driver circuit for high‐efficiency RF switching power amplifiers (class E, class D) based on a small‐area driver transistor, intrinsic input capacitances of the output‐power transistor, and a shaping network. The driver operation is based on class‐E principles
