Oxidation of hydrazones of aliphatic ketones by a Co(salen)dioxygen system in dichloromethane results in oxidative denitrogenation of the hydrazones to give new l-alkenylcobalt(I11) complexes. Treatment of the alkenyl complexes with sodium borohydride gives the corresponding cis-olefins. Oxygenation reactions with cobalt(I1) Schiff base complexes are topics of investigations on models for biological oxygenations 1 and on organic functionalization reactions. 2 Recently, we have reported that five coordinate cobalt(I1) Schiff base complexes are effective for the dehydrogenation of hydrazones of aromatic ketones in aprotic solvents, providing a convenient method for the synthesis of aryldiazoalkanes, 3 and that N,N'-ethylenebis-(salicylideneiminato)cobalt(II), Co(salen), catalyzes oxidative degradation of
