✦ Synopsis

Our goal in this review is to explore sophila and vertebrate systems each have their own the relationship between Drosophila and vertebrate biases, strengths, and weaknesses; we hope that by neural stem cell development by comparing progress directly comparing progress in each field, new experiin each system with the aim of answering several cenments and interpretations in both vertebrate and Drotral questions in stem cell biology: (a) How are stem sophila research will become apparent. It has become cells formed? (b) Do stem cells divide symmetrically increasingly clear that vertebrates and Drosophila or asymmetrically? (c) How is stem cell fate mainshare many fundamental mechanisms of neurogenesis, tained? (d) How is stem cell differentiation initiated? validating a comparative approach.

## Abstract Temporal analysis in gene expression during differentiation of neural stem cells (NSCs) was performed by using in‐house microarrays composed of 10,368 genes. The changes in mRNA level were measured during differentiation day 1, 2, 3, 6, 12, and 15. Out of 10,368 genes analyzed, 259 gene

## Abstract The neural crest (NC) is a transient population of multipotent progenitors arising at the lateral edge of the neural plate in vertebrate embryos, which then migrate throughout the body to generate diverse array of tissues such as the peripheral nervous system, skin melanocytes, and cran

The increase of adipose tissue mass that accompanies obesity is due both to an increase in adipocyte number (hyperplasia) and size (hypertrophy) (Shepherd et al., 1993) (Fig. 1). Hyperplasia results from the recruitment of preadipose cells from a population of pluripotent stem cells that reside in t
