✦ Synopsis
Abstract
The results of this assessment of the literature indicated that neoadjuvant therapy followed by prostatectomy may improve long‐term outcomes for patients with high‐risk localized disease. In addition, this approach provides a paradigm for evaluating the activity and mechanism of action of new agents as correlative studies are facilitated by the availability of tumor tissue before and after therapy. The authors determined that a multidisciplinary approach involving oncologists, urologists, and pathologists is critical to the success of this model. Recent and ongoing studies of neoadjuvant therapy followed by prostatectomy were reviewed. Cancer 2007. © 2007 American Cancer Society.

## Abstract ## BACKGROUND. Early detection of small‐volume prostate cancer (PCa) has led to the concept of focal therapy to treat PCa as an organ‐sparing, minimally invasive procedure. The authors sought to determine the frequency of unilateral cancers in the contemporary prostate‐specific antigen
## Abstract ## BACKGROUND: Prostate cancer trials investigating neoadjuvant hormonal therapy, followed by surgery, have demonstrated that elimination of all tumor cells from the primary site is rare. The authors report a phase 2 trial assessing the efficacy and toxicity of docetaxel and gefitinib
The current study compares the use of radical prostatectomy and external beam radiation therapy in the treatment of patients with prostate carcinoma and concludes that radical prostatectomy is more beneficial than external beam radiation therapy for low‐risk and intermediate‐risk men with this commo
## Abstract ## BACKGROUND To the authors' knowledge, consensus is lacking regarding the relative long‐term efficacy of radical prostatectomy (RP) versus conventional‐dose external beam radiation therapy (RT) in the treatment of patients with clinically localized prostate carcinoma. ## METHODS A
