β¦ Synopsis
A new interpretation for the often observed phenomenon of "Raman backgroundΓ is presented and discussed. It is shown that in many cases the appearance of the background for various materials (organic and inorganic) is associated with the presence of high-wavenumber m(XH) vibrations. The nature of the observed broad band can be explained by strong anharmonic interaction between high-wavenumber excitation and low-wavenumber phonons. The results of theoretical evaluations are presented. Using the approach proposed, a good description of the unusual spectral features for several materials has been achieved. 1997

The laser excited so-called "fluorescence" background from MgO and q-Al203 surfaces was studied. Surface hydroxide ions are found to be responsible for this phenomenon, since a clear correlation between background intensity and hydrosyl group density of the surface is observed. The so-called "fluor
Raman and infrared spectra of 2-aminobenzotrifluoride, in the liquid phase, and single vibronic level fluorescence (SVLF) spectra, in a supersonic jet, have been recorded and assigned to give an almost complete set of fundamental vibration wavenumbers in \(S_{0}\). In the SVLF spectrum, the assignme
