Abstract

The 5,7‐dimethoxycoumarins, gleinene (3b) and gleinadiene (2), which naturally occur in Murraya gleinei root bark, have been synthesized in four steps from 7‐hydroxy‐5‐methoxycoumarin (1a) in overall yields of 45% and 19%, respectively.
