✦ Synopsis

The reactions of Zn(4 'PI) with CH,, C H C H and C( CHs), were studied by employing a laser pump-and-probe technique.

2 6, 3 B The nascent rotational state distributions of ZnH(X %+, v" =O) were determined. The rotational distributions could be approximated by Boltzmann distributions in all cases. The corresponding Boltzmann temperature decreased with the size of the hydrocarbons; 9000 K for CHd, 5000 K for C2H6, 2900 K for C,Hs and 1600 K for C ( CH3)+ These distributions were compared with those predicted by a statistical model.
