✦ Synopsis
Mdssbaucr studies on 57Fe isolated in solid ammonia and ammonillxenon mixtures were performed at 4.2 and 77 K. They give direct evidence that atomic iron reacts only with one ammonia molcculc forming FcNH3 which is stable in an ammo& matrix up to 77 K. In addition a compound is formed which is attributed to an iron(II)hexammine.
