✦ Synopsis

The aim of this research was to study the gaseous stove and collected with the impinger. Similar mutaand particulate emissions of genotoxic substances genicity (TA98/S9) was also found for the finest fracduring cooking with two types of methane stoves (a tion of particulates (Γ΅0.5 um) collected from both new one and an old one). The particulates were stoves. Gaseous emissions of both stoves caused classampled both with a cascade impactor air sampler togenicity in the in situ experiments with the Tradesand an impinger with ice trap and analyzed by two cantia-micronucleus test. The physico-chemical analybacterial mutagenicity tests (Ames and Kado tests) ses of the emissions showed also the presence of and by HPLC for polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons very fine particulates and trace amounts of PAH. The (PAH). Gaseous emissions were studied in situ using exposure of these genotoxins could be particularly the Ames test, a clastogenicity plant test (Tradescan-important for occupationally exposed individuals in tia-micronucleus test), and in an automated system homes and businesses and for susceptible subjects for chemical analyses. Clear indirect mutagenicity living indoors for long periods (infants, children, the was found only with the Kado test (TA98-S9) in sick, and the elderly). Environ. Mol. ## Abstract The chemical industry comprises of the companies that produce industrial chemicals. It is central to the modern world economy, converting raw materials into more than 70 000 different products. However, environmental regulations and the risk of climate change are putting pressure on the
