✦ Synopsis

The growth of multilayer oxide (oxide II) on smooth Pt was investigated as a function of cd and temperature in 0.1. 0.5 and 1 M H,SO,. The pretreatment of the electrode is an essential feature III the forming of oxide II: ~q depending on the history of the electrode, oxide II was formed in 0.5 M HzS04 at cd of 100 mA/cm' at temperatures above 14 or 22'C. During the oxidation the potential-time curve shows a maximum. characteristic for the forming of oxide II. w. VISSCHER AND M. BLIJLEVENS Sca'e ' ) V w rhe I 2 2 1 .sea* 2

The growth of multilayer oxide films on smooth platinum anodes in O-5 M HISOl has been investigated under the potentiostatic conditions where oxygen was evolved vigorously. The range of anodizing condition covered was : electrode potential, 207-2.22 V(nhe); 20-35Β°C; duration up to 60 min. The growth

Muonium formation was verified in platinum powders under vacuum by muonium spin rotation ( MuSR) spectroscopy. Muonium yields of 13 ( 1 )% and 9( 3)% per incident muon were obtained for Pt powders with mean particle diameters of 30 and 200 nm, respectively. The disappearance of the muonium signal un
