✦ Synopsis

A mathematicalmodel of a reactivedtstti!tatZoncolumn. whtch takes into account chemtcal equtltbrtum, ktnettcs of ltqutd phase catatysed reaction and tray efftctency, has been developed.

The case of two reactants A and B whtch form a ltght product C and a heavy one D 2s analysed. The matn reactton of the process Zs strongly tnflusnced bg chemZca1 equZi!tbrtum, thus Dproductfon ts tncreasedbyfeedtng the ltght reagent A to the bottom of the column and strtpptng from the reacttng 1Zqutd the lrght product C.

The mathematZca2 model consZsts of a s$jstemof algebraic equattons that describe the mass and energy balances of the reacttng and non-reacting trays of the column, coupled wtth the equattons for vapor-1Zqutd and chemtcal reaction equtltbrla and, for those components that are present at very low concentration tn the liquid phase, the diffuston controlted mass-tranfer from the 1iquLd to the vapor phase.

The analysts ts performed to enlfghten the effects of varCous parameters and operattng condStlons, such as the number of the reacttng trays and vapor feed flowrate, wtth the atm of obtatntng a guide for the mtntmtsatton of the energy consumptton per untt heavy product D.
