## Abstract A radio frequency plasma detector for capillary GC has been modified for oxygenβselective detection. Purification of the plasma gas and purging of both ends of the discharge region with helium were crucial to minimizing oxygen background emission from impurities in the plasma. With a pu

β¦ Synopsis
Multi-Element Selective Radio Frequency Plasma Detector bore columns is their reduced sample capacity. When the combination of CGC with odor evaluation of FTlR is desired, a wide-bore column is a betterchoice [6]. Figures 1 to 4 demonstrate that an excellent separation of the different lemon oil components is obtained in only 10 min.
Based on their composition, the four oils can be divided in two groups. The first group consists of the essential oils from the Citrus latifolia Tanaka and from the Citrus lemon Burm. In the chromatograms of these oils, the presence of the monoterpenoids neral (peak 15) and geranial ( 16), of neryl acetate (19) and geranyl acetate (21), and of the sesquiterpenes caryophyllene ( 22), a-bergamotene (23), and P-bisabolene ( 24) is indicative. The second group of essential oils consists of the oils of the Citrus reticulata Blanco and the Tanger murcote Blanco X Citrus sinensis Osbeck. These oils are nearly exclusively composed of monoterpenes, with limonene (8) being present to more than 90%. The amount of a-pinene is also much lower in this group.
Differentiation between the oils within one group can be made through their relative quantitative composition. On comparing, for instance, Citrus latifolia Tanaka with Citrus limon Burrn, the diffferent amounts ofp-cymene (7), y-terpinene (1 0), and neryl acetate (1 9) are clear. In Citrus latifolia Tanaka, two unidentified peaks (1 7 and 18) (acetates?) can also be observed. The oils of Citrus reticulata Blanco and of Tangor murcote Blanco X Citrus sinensis Osbeck can be distinguished on the basis of the relative contents of a-thujene, P-pinene, and y-terpinene. In particular, the absence of the large y-terpinene peak in the latter oil is remarkable.
