The three-dimensional gross morphology of the pituitary gland of the garter snake (Thamnophis sirtalis) is presented. Hormone-producing cells of the pars distalis were localized immunocytochemically. Corticotropes and lactotropes occur in the anterior two-thirds of the gland; corticotropes are espec
