✦ Synopsis

Relapse in children with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) on therapy may be due to development of a resistant clone of blast cells. Seven children who presented initially with the "common"-type, L1 lymphoblast relapsed with a morphologically different and more undifferentiated blast cell. Ail were male, with a median age of 12 years at initial presentation. One child who relapsed while off ther-apy was successfully reinduced and remains in hematologic remission on therapy. The remaining 6 children died within I0 months of relapse. Selection of a resistant clone of lymphoblasts by chemotherapy may be responsible for relapse in children with ALL and should be studied in hopes of controlling the disease.

There is no specific morphologic finding that is representative of different phenotypic patterns of acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL). In 15 cases of T-cell ALL, there were ruptured white blood cells among the lymphoblasts, as seen in chronic lymphocytic leukemia. These 15 cases are presented in th

The clinical course and other distinctive features of five children who developed a testicular relapse 4 months to 25 months after the diagnosis of acute nonlymphoblastic leukemia (ANLL) are described. The chief presenting feature at relapse was painless testicular enlargement, as is also seen in ch
