The recently reported abnormal in vitro haemolysis from catecholamine metabolites in schizophrenia was tested. We did not find the postulated increase in haemolysis, though the exchange of plasma for Ringer solution renders some patients' erythrocytes more susceptible to the effects of adrenochrome.
