## Abstract A monthly forecasting system has been set up at ECMWF. Probabilistic scores indicate some potentially useful skill for the periods days 12 to 18 and 19 to 32. A case study of the 2003 heat wave over Europe suggests that the model successfully predicted a risk of heat wave higher than in
