## Abstract The development of a coarseβgrained reducedβrepresentation model of the hydrocarbon region of a biological membrane is reported. The potential is based on the popular GayβBerne model of liquid crystals, and involves the linking of individual GayβBerne ellipsoids by harmonic springs to f
