Following the laboratory detection by Fourier transform microwave spectroscopy of the four new methylcyanopolyynes described in the accompanying paper by W. Chen et al. (J. Mol. Spectrosc. 1998), we detected two new methylpolyynes, CH3(C identical withC)4H and CH3(C identical withC)5H. The strongest

✦ Synopsis
The methylfluoroacetylenes CH 3 -(CBC) 2 -F and CH 3 -(CBC) 3 -F have been generated for the first time in a pulseddischarge nozzle and characterized by molecular beam Fourier transform microwave spectroscopy in the 5-26 GHz frequency range. The spectroscopic constants B ¼ 1086:44824ð13Þ MHz, D J ¼ 0:02044ð70Þ kHz, and D JK ¼ 7:083ð91Þ kHz of CH 3 -(CBC) 2 -F and B ¼ 478:908444ð34Þ MHz, D J ¼ 0:003060ð98Þ kHz, and D JK ¼ 1:899ð22Þ kHz of CH 3 -(CBC) 3 -F have been determined. In addition, the 13 C isotopic species of CH 3 -CBC-F in their natural abundances have been measured, and a partial substitution structure of CH 3 -CBC-F has been derived and compared with those of related fluorine derivatives.
