✦ Synopsis

Upon treatment of p-t but-tetrathiacalix [4]arene and p-t but-tetrathiatetramercaptocalix [4]arene by 1,2-dibromoethane in the presence of K 2 CO 3 two new basket-type derivatives are obtained and their structures characterised in the solid state by X-ray diffraction on single crystals.

A calix arene library consisting of ca. 50 000 members was synthesized using 15 amino acids. Screening of the library for binding dye-labeled oligopeptides indicated that some peptidocalix[4]arenes selectively bind specific oligopeptides.
