In this paper we report on the investigation of radiatively coupled quantum wells in periodic quantum well (PQW) structures. The experimentally determined mode structure and reflectivity spectra at the Bragg resonance as well as off Bragg can be successfully modeled by linear dispersion theory. Meas

✦ Synopsis
Electronic Bragg mirrors were used to conÿne carriers at energy levels above the barrier height in asymmetric coupled quantum wells. Two classes of above barrier states were resolved by using photoluminescence, photoluminescence excitation and modulated resonant Raman spectroscopy. The ÿrst class is Bragg conÿned levels that are highly localized in the asymmetric quantum wells region and are red shifted when locally excited electric ÿeld is generated in the asymmetric coupled quantum well region. The second class of levels that extend mainly above the re ectors is not shifted when the locally excited ÿeld is generated. This phenomenon is due to the smaller conÿnement of the extended states in the asymmetric quantum well region.
