a-Keto acid dependent nonheme iron enzymes1'I catalyze a variety of metabolic reactions involving the functionalization of an unactivated C-H bond, concomitant with the oxidative decarboxylation of the cofactor a-keto acid. A general reaction with substrate (A) proceeds according to Equation (a).
