β¦ Synopsis
gelcoat made of pure unsaturated polyester and deposited on the surface of a loaded polyester is studied. The problem of the cure of a gelcoat is considered by taking into account heat evolved from the cure reaction, heat transferred by conduction through the resin and support and heat convection on the surface. T:he kinetics of heat generated by the cure reaction is obtained by calorimetry in a scanning mode. As the :reaction starts at around 10Β°C. the catalyst is added in the mixture at a temperature around 0Β°C. The process is studied either by experiments or by using a numerical model. Experiments are useful to measure the temperaturetime history at the midplane of the layer. The numerical model is capable of providing profiles of temperature and of state of cure developed through the film.
