The effects of model reduction on control systems with parameter variations are investigated. In order to reduce these effects, two modljied Padk approximation methods are used so that the reduced models can approximate the frequency response of the original transfer function not only at s = 0 and s

โฆ Synopsis
The problem of reduced-order modelling is considered in connection with the design of restricted complexity controllers. The suggested reduction method develops in two phases : (i) a simplefrequency response of the overallfeedback control system is determined according to the design specifications ; (ii) a reduced-order transference of the controlled plant is obtained by solving a linear set of equations in such a way that its behaviour approximates that ofthe original plant atfrequencies which are meaningjiilfor the overall transferfunction derived in thejrst step (e.g. resonance and cutofffrequencies). An example shows how the procedure yields a reducedorder model suitablefor designing robust controllers whereas other standard methods, based on properties of the plant only, fail.
