✦ Synopsis
Recent model potentGal calculations of the H-He interaction potential by
Vabron et aL are applied to the calculation of the cross section for elastic scattering of I-i and D by He at very low energies (of the order of several meV). -4greement with the experimental data is excelknt. In view of the sensitivity of the cross sections to the interaction potential, it is established that our model potential method is highly accurate in describing long-and intermediate-range interactions_

Low-energy noble-gas ion scattering (LEIS) probes the outermost atomic layer of a material, but a quantitative compositional analysis of this layer is not straightforward. It is demonstrated that quantiÐcation by calibration can be done, assuming that ion fractions and shielding e †ects are the same
