✦ Synopsis

A model for the collision rate of an impurity ion in a plasma is formulated by extending a corresponding model for velocity and electric field correlation functions. All dynamical effects of the plasma are represented by its electric field at the impurity, which is then given a simple stochastic description. The simplest example allows complete determination of the collision rate and solution to the associated kinetic equation.

A new approach for modeling kinetic effects in tokamak edge plasma has been recently developed [l]. This approach is based on the modified Bhatnagar, Gross and Krook equations (BGK) instead of the complicate Fokker-Planck (FP) equation and is very simple and convenient for efficient computation. This paper introduces a simple model for solving a system of first-order rate equations using the TLM numerical method. A general algorithm is developed by setting up a matrix of discrete compartments. The rate constants provide the linkage between each compartment and the neighbouring ones. The met
