Christopher Goetz, neurologist and historian, has translated portions of nine of the Tuesday Lessons offered by Charcot from 1887 to 1888. Included among these are lectures covering syphilis, locomotor ataxia, ambulatory automatism, Gilles de la Tourette syndrome, hystero-epilepsy, Parkinson's disease, and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.

Charcot's presentations are modern in their style and organization. He stressed the typical characteristics of the disease or the "archetype" and then expanded his discussion to include its variations. Much emphasis was placed on history taking.
