Abstract

Large soft‐tissue defects of the upper extremity are difficult to reconstruct. Defects in 21 patients (15–75 years old) were treated by free tissue transfer of the rectus abdominis muscle. The defects were the result of trauma or resection of tumor and measured more than 15 Γ— 15 cm. The muscle was transferred on the inferior epigastric pedicle and covered with a skin graft within 48 hours. All transfers were successful, and early soft‐tissue healing occurred. This procedure offers the advantages of easy positioning, large donor vessels, and a highly vascular soft tissue reconstruction. The long‐term functional and cosmetic results have been excellent. ## Abstract A rat microvascular free rectus myocutaneous flap model with a superior epigastric vessel pedicle is presented. The rectus muscle has a predictable β€žflow‐through”︁ axial vascular system consisting of superior and inferior epigastric vessels anastomosing under the fascial sheath, and six

Total loss of both lips is fortunately rare as reconstruction of such defects poses an enormous challenge. We present a case of concomitant loss of both lips as a result of fulminant pneumococcal septicemia, which was reconstructed with a free vertical rectus abdominis myocutantous flap due to lack

## Abstract Reconstruction of the foot using microvascular flaps has been widely performed in the last 15 years but the choice of flap to repair some areas in the foot remains controversial. We present a series of 128 free flaps to the foot performed during the period of 1975–1990. One hundred and
