β¦ Synopsis
Thin films of Mn35Ga~,.s were prepared on glass substrates by a conventional vacuum evaporation technique, and the magnetization behaviour was examined in relation to the phase evolution on thermal annealing. A very high magnetic coercivity of about 250 kA mwas obtained in the films deposited on the 373 K substrates after annealing in the temperature range 473-573 K for 0.5 h. The microstructure of the films was composed of Mn~Ga.~ crystallites together with an unidentified second phase, which was tentatively assumed to have an orthorhombic cell.
