β¦ Synopsis
Following the trend of miniaturization, achievements made in micro-and nanofluidics, or lab-on-chip discipline, has been strongly recognized as one of the major highlights in this fast-growing technology which impacts significantly on chemistry, biology, engineering and physics. In the last two decades, especially in the recent years, universities and research institutes in the Asia Pacific region have participated in the rapid worldwide development of lab-on-chip science and technology with great enthusiasm and have accomplished fruitful research advances as part of the microfluidic community.
As the editor of the annual Asia Pacific edition of ELECTROPHORESIS, I feel it is time for us to pay attention to the developments and advances in the microfluidic community of this region and to shift the title of the 2011 special issue from ''Miniaturation in Asia Pacific'' to ''Micro-and Nanofluidics in Asia Pacific''. By organizing this edition, my hope is that it reflects the most recent developments in the lab-on-chip community in this most populous and economically vibrant part of the world.
This issue includes a review and 17 research articles covering basic technology and applications to DNA, protein and cells of this multidisciplinary science. I hope this edition will provide the readers with some insightful views on this intriguing field, as well future perspectives.
As the guest-editor, I would like to thank all authors and reviewers for their valuable contributions, to thank especially my colleague, Dr. Hua Xie for her valuable help during the whole editorial process. I also greatly appreciate the Editor-in-Chief, Professor Ziad EI Rassi and the team at Wiley-VCH for all the practical help and their continued support of this annual special issue.
