✦ Synopsis

Abstract

In a diffusion experiment a radioactively tagged substance diffuses into and through a membrane and is observed with a G. M. counter. The time lag L associated with the approach to the steady counting rate is calculated. Although the diffusion problem has rather general boundary conditions, L is obtained in a simple way by making appropriate use of the easily available asymptotic solution of the problem without having to resort to the explicit solution.
