โฆ Synopsis
Ring-opened polymers have been prepared from 5-and 6-substituted norbornenes la-9a in which at least one substituent was an ester group. A variety of metathesis catalysts was used and the microstructures of the polymers were examined by 13C NMR spectroscopy. Assignments were made to c/t, HH/HT, TT/TH and m/r isomers. Polymers with a wide range of cis content were obtained and the results ran broadly parallel with those previously found for polymers of methyl-substituted norbornenes.
Very little HT bias was observed, m/r Splitting was found for certain carbon nuclei in HH structures derived from monomers containing an endo 5-substituent.
