✦ Synopsis

Temperature induces quantitative changes in the pigmentation of Mycobacterium phlei grown 6 days on glycerol broth.

The following neutral carotenoids are synthesized in good amounts at 3OoC : leprotene, y-carotene, a "rhodopin-like" lyeopenoid, an oxycarotenoid and traces of phytofluene; only traces of the acidic chrysoflein are produced.

A t 37OC, only small amounts of the same neutral compounds are detectable, but formation of chrysoflein is considerably increased.

## Abstract The affinity of the metalions Cu^2+^, Ni^2+^, Co^2+^, Zn^2+^, Fe^2+^ and Mn^2+^ towards dipyridyl has been investigated. The possible meaning of the differences in complex stability for biological reactions is discussed.

## Abstract The possible reactions of metal ions and complexing agents with metal enzymes are discussed. Complex formation between 2‐hydrazino‐lepidine and 1‐hydrazino‐phthalazine, chelating agents of similar structure, with Fe^2+^, Zn^2+^ and Co^2+^ has been studied. There is a marked difference i

## Abstract In exchange reaction studies of the [Fe(Dipy)~3~]^2+^ complex it was found that the rate of racemization is greater than the rate of dissoziation. This fact suggests racemization through intramolecular rearrangement. Such a reaction can be regarded as a model for an enzymesubstrate‐reac
