β¦ Synopsis
A double layer metallization with a thin semi-transparent metal layer at the bottom and a thick metal grid on top is proposed to improve the uniformity and intensity of electroluminescence of a large area porous silicon LED. The thickness of the bottom layer is optimized by considering its resistive and absorption losses. A theoretical model representing the PS LED as a distributed network of elementary diodes and resistors is developed for optimizing the design of the top grid pattern. Experiments were performed to confirm the model. Significant improvement in uniformity and intensity of light output is reported with incorporation of the proposed double layer metallization.
