This year, to meet varying conditions, the annual Medal Day meeting was held in April instead of May.
The meeting was called to order at three-thirty o'clock by the President, Mr. Charles S. Redding.
The President announced this to be a regular stated monthly meeting and asked if there were any objection to the minutes of the previous month, which had been printed in full in the April JOURNAL. No objection being offered, the minutes were declared approved as printed.
Dr. Henry Butler Allen, Secretary and Director of the Institute, was then called upon for a report. He stated that routine business was omitted in deference to the importance of awarding medals.
Mr. Redding then outlined the procedure followed by the Committee on Science and the Arts, the body within the Institute responsible for recommending award of medals. Its recommendations are made to the Board of Managers, which group gives the final vote to the award. After commenting on the fact that the Committee'has been functioning since the inception of The Franklin Institute in I824, he proceeded with the business of the day, which embraced the award of the following medals: Sponsors Presentation of Certificates of Merit THE GOODYEAR TIRE AND RUBBER COMPANY
