## Abstract A novel and green approach has been described for the synthesis of 2,3‐dihydro‐1__H__‐1,5‐benzodiazepines from __o__‐phenylenediamines and ketones using cerium(III) chloride/sodium iodide supported on silica gel under mild and heterogeneous conditions. The reactions are carried out at r
