✦ Synopsis

Adsorption and flocculation of polyethylene oxide on dolomite and apatite were studied. It was determined that dolomite with isolated hydroxyl groups exhibited flocculation whereas apatite and some dolomite samples which do not have isolated (-\mathrm{OH}) groups did not flocculate. It was hypothesized that adsorption of polyethylene oxide on apatite and dolomite surface takes place because of hydrogen bonding. Isolated (-\mathrm{OH}) groups and physically adsorbed water were the main adsorption sites on apatite and dolomite. 1993 Academic Press, Inc.

Molecular composites were prepared by the solution blending of poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO) of three different molecular weights with low concentrations of poly(p-phenylene terephthalamide) (PPTA) anion serving as a rigid-rod reinforcement.
