✦ Synopsis

The laser photolysis technique has been used for the investigation of temperature and solven effects on the triplet decay rate (k-f) of thiacubocyanine dyes containing I and Brat the meso position of the polymethine chain. At low temperatures, when X-T is virtually constant, the radiationless triplet-singlet transition occurs via Siebrand's mechanism. As the temperature is increased, the heat-activated transition over the potential barrier separating the triplet and the ground state becomes the basic triplet dewy mechanism.
