Initial results on a two-bit quantum logic gate are presented, and select experimental issues in scaling the system to larger numbers of ions and gates are treated
We consider one source of decoherence for a quantum computer due to the thermal effects of the system. The upper limit of the temperature at which the logical gate operations could be carried out reliably is given, and our result is in agreement with the experiment.
