Measurements of the snow surface emissivity for infrared radiation have been made with an infrared radiation thermometer. The mean value of the emissivity is estimated at E = 0.970 + 0.008.

## Abstract Some measurements from aircraft of the emissivity of the earth's surface are described. They show that for the type of surface studied, the earth's surface is radiating as a black‐body at a temperature somewhere between screen air temperature and grass or sea‐surface temperature.
