A simple procedure to simplify the 2D-COSY spectra of molecules in which significant % variations occur is described. The procedure was applied to distinguish between the methine and methylene protons of the reducing sugar L-idose.

An interactive computer procedure is described which determines (1)H--(1)H couplings from fitting the cross-peak multiplets in regular phase-sensitive COSY spectra. The robustness and simplicity of the method rely on the fact that a given cross-peak intensity is not an independent variable in the fi
