✦ Synopsis

A directional coupler with nickel-indiffused LiNbO wa¨e-3 guides was fabricated successfully for the first time. Moreo¨er, the coupling characteristics of an Ni:LiNbO directional coupler, including 3 the coupling coefficient and coupling length, were exactly measured by the multiple wa¨eguide array method.

## Abstract In this paper, a technique to minimize the variability of the scattering coefficients in multihole directional couplers is shown. The technique also controls important features of the frequency response like bandwidth and minimum directivity. Several examples are presented to show the m

## Abstract Two kinds of groove structure for shortening and broadening the coupling lengths of Ti:diffused LiNbO~3~ directional couplers are presented. The coupling lengths as functions of the depth, width, and spacing of the grooves were numerically calculated. The results show that the maximum s
