## Abstract The maturational competence of the in vitro grown mouse oocytes of various sizes was examined, and was compared to that of oocytes of equivalent chronological age which grew in vivo. Oocyteβgranulosa cell complexes isolated from 10βdayβold female mice were cultured for 10 days in vitro

β¦ Synopsis
Abstract
Preincubation of sperm in medium for three hours before mixing with ova increased the number of ova fertilized after one hour, thus indicating that sperm maturation occurs in vitro. The presence of cumulus cells increased the proportion of ova fertilized as observed at two and at three hours after the addition of sperm. However, no difference in the proportion of ova fertilized after one hour of incubation was observed using fresh epididymal sperm and ova with or without cumulus cells. No additive effect of cumulus cells and sperm preincubation on fertilization was observed. Sperm preincubation for three hours in the presence of ova either with or without cumulus cells resulted in fertilization similar to that achieved by sperm preincubated in medium alone.

## Abstract Fertilization in mice is initiated by speciesβspecific binding of sperm to mZP3, one of three mouse zona pellucida (ZP) glycoproteins. At nanomolar concentrations, purified egg mZP3 binds to acrosomeβintact sperm heads and inhibits binding of sperm to eggs in vitro__.__ Although several
A morphometric analysis of mouse sperm and of their nuclei was undertaken to investigate their respective post-testicular maturation. Sperm were collected from the testis, caput and cauda epididymidis, and their corresponding nuclei were isolated. Results indicate that the post-testicular maturation
