โฆ Synopsis
The mass sensitivity of the tube acoustic wave sensor in the extensional mode has been determined through the electrodeposition of lead films onto the outer surface of the device. The sensor is operated in a delay line configuration, where only small changes in acoustic loss occur when the structure is immersed in liquids. Experimental and theoretical values agree in sign and magnitude. Abrupt changes in the relative phase response of the device, during electrochemical processes, are discussed in terms of the phenomenon of mechanical resonance.
