β¦ Synopsis
Magnetic properties of 5 (Tb 2+y Fe 17Γx Si x ) = Tb 14.5 Fe 85.5Γx Si x alloys with x=0 -15 and with the hexagonal Th 2 Ni 17 -type structure have been investigated at temperature T=1.9-400 K in magnetic field of 5 kOe and at T=1.9 K in magnetic field up to 50 kOe with a SQUID technique. The field dependence of magnetization at T=4.2 K has been measured in pulse installation in magnetic field up to 370 kOe with the pulse duration of 10 ms. The excess of Tb slightly decreases the Curie point and slightly increases the saturation magnetic moment in relation to a stoichiometric binary compound. The Si admixture increases the Curie point and remanence whereas it decreases the saturation magnetic moments. The ferrimagnetic character of investigated compounds manifests itself in the temperature dependence of magnetization of the samples with x=10 and 15. The sample with x=10 shows the most pronounced remanence at T=4.2 K.
