✦ Synopsis

The effect of the magnetic induction on the quantum yield ofX1 (X=Cl, Br) radicals photogenerated in 249 nm flash irradiations of Co(NH,),X2+ was investigated at field intensities between 0 and 9 T. The quantum yield decreases with field intensity towards a minimum, $(B)/@(O) ~0.90 at 0.25 T. The quantum yield tends to recover its zero-field value as the field increases from 0.25 to 7 T. These experimental observations have been compared with magnetokinetic effects on the respective reactions of Xi radicals with Co(OH2)a' and Co(Meb-[ 14]dieneN4)'+.

Luminescence Lifetimes of several complex ions at 77% and 4.2'K arc reported. The Lifetimes are shortened in a magnetic field. The results indicate that emission occurs from scvera! states in Boltzmann equilibrium, at least one of which possesses a magnetic moment.
