β¦ Synopsis
Two spectral features are observed for the magnetic circular dichroism (MCD) spectra of 1,4-diazabicyclo-[2.2.2]octane (DABCO) in solution. First an intense positive A term is revealed in the range of 250-200 nm which provides an unambiguous assignment for a degenerate 'E' state. The energy at which Aes, = 0 is found to be sensitive to the solvent used. Second, a negative MCD feature with a minimum at 255.4 nm is observed for DABCO in ethanol, suggesting a 'A'; state assignment.
